Recognized as an expert in health analytics, evaluation, and research, Dr. Yu has built a reputation in the business of analytics, evaluation, and research as thought leader and methodologist. He designs and conducts large-scale, high-visibility health services and healthcare outcome studies that integrate innovative methodologies in predictive modeling, assessing program attribution, and estimating return on investment. His technical expertise also includes surveys, statistics, and demography, business development, pricing, and project management.
Dr. Yu came to Arbor Research with close to 40 years of experience winning and managing a portfolio valued at over $200 million for projects funded government and private-sector clients. Prior to joining Arbor Research, Dr. Yu served as a principal for Booz Allen’s Social Scient Research Practice where he built the group that previously did not exist at Booz Allen and oversaw growth in health analytics, research, and evaluation across a wide range of clients, including CMS, AHRQ, CDC, ASPE, and SAMHSA. As part of his role, Dr. Yu oversaw a process to define, drive, and execute strategies to upsell and expand firm capabilities across health, including the areas of research, data science, and artificial intelligence/machine learning analytics. Over his career, Dr. Yu has led the CMS Independence Evaluation Contract (IEC) to examine the return on investment (ROI) in the Quality Innovation Network (QIN) and Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) program. He has also led major studies for SAMHSA in the behavioral health area.
Before Booz Allen, Dr. Yu worked at Battelle Memorial Institute directing the Substance Abuse Research and Evaluation Group and its Joint Center for International Research with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and also did some work in support of the pharmaceutical organization. He holds a PhD in Demographic Statistics from Cornell University, an MA from Georgetown University, and a BA in American Studies from Canton University of Trade and Foreign Languages.
