Arbor Research Collaborative for Health has been awarded a new contract to develop and operate a secure, scalable, and innovative data registry system in support of Michigan’s Obstetrics Initiative (OBI). The initiative, one of several state-wide Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQI), aims to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes across the state through advanced data-driven insights and collaborative engagement.

Arbor Research will deliver a full lifecycle solution for OBI’s clinical data registry, including implementation, training, support, and automated integration with electronic health record (EHR) systems. The platform will enable nightly data exports, advanced analytics dashboards, and customizable reports that drive quality improvement efforts across participating hospitals.

Fred Miller, Senior Director for Health IT at Arbor Research, emphasized the importance of the initiative:

“This project is a transformative opportunity to measure and improve obstetric health outcomes across Michigan by leveraging modern Health Information Technology. Our platform will empower clinicians and stakeholders with real-time, actionable data—ultimately enhancing care quality and equity for mothers and babies throughout the state.”

Arbor will support this effort with its leading health data collection product, ArborLink. The system will support secure, automated data ingestion from hospital systems via HL7 and FHIR standards, ensure HIPAA compliance, and offer multilingual patient-reported outcome tools. Future phases include integration of additional roles and expanded capabilities to address broader maternal and neonatal health goals.

Candice Jones, senior programmer of the Obstetrics Initiative, sums up the new relationship: “the partnership between OBI and Arbor Research is making a real difference by leveraging data and technology to drive quality improvement and equity in care.”
